This was the chapter that I can relate to the most because I have used e-commerce for buying electronic components, gaming subscriptions, and more. When I purchase from a website, I make sure the company is well known, has good reviews, and offers an exceptional return policy. By following the rules I have set for myself, I have not been let down since I started shopping this way.
When I am looking for a specific product and want to stick with a particular brand, I like using the sorting and filtering features that search engines provide. For example, I can set a price range to stay within my budget, and I can filter results based on customer reviews and ratings. This process helps narrow down my options and makes searching much more efficient.
Regarding the technical terms outlined in the reading, there were some I had not heard before, such as “clickstream.” I do not like how this is used, as I feel it can be an invasion of privacy. Tracking and recording my clicks across websites to map my behavior feels intrusive. While companies claim it is used to “improve user experience,” it can sometimes feel like a way to present something more favorably than it actually is.
I have used AirDrop over the past few years, and it works very well. I did not know that the technical concept behind it is called near field communication. Overall, this chapter was very informative for me.
